Video chat can also be used for business calls and meetings and even school that traditionally were held in person. FaceTime is a popular platform to video chat on, but not everybody has an iPhone or a Mac computer. So, in this article, we will go over the top Face Time alternatives. 

1. WhatsApp

WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most popular messengers for people to chat with one another no matter where they are in the world. It is a free app that can be used across platforms including Android and iOS. 

In addition to video chat you can use WhatsApp to send instant messages, sharing pictures and videos and make voice calls. You can also have group chats with up to 256 people. This is available for mobile devices and desktop and laptop computers.

After you download it, you will need to verify your phone number. Then, you will receive a six-digit authentication code. Enter that code and then you can start using WhatsApp.

2. Skype

Skype is another free app that can be used on multiple platforms. This app is considered the OG of video calling platforms and has been around much longer than FaceTime. Similar to FaceTime and WhatsApp, with Skype you can send instant messages, make video calls, make voice calls and a lot more. 

You can use it on Android and iOS devices as well as tablets and laptop and desktop computers. With Skype you can talk to people, do group chats and even participate in online classes and meetings. A very useful feature during COVID-19 for those of us who are working and learning from home.

After you download the app, you will need to get a Skype account if you do not already have one. Once your account is created you can sign in with your username and password and start using Skype.

3. Viber

Viber is a great alternative for FaceTime for people without iPhones. This is a free and able to be used across multiple platforms. This service has been on the market since 2010. With Viber, you can also send instant messages, video chat, voice chat and many more features. You are also to call real phone numbers like with Skype, with a low cost. 

You can also send stickers and gifs and build groups and communities. Viber allows you to make HD quality calls and then switch instantly to video call. It also has an added feature of end-to-end encryption on your calls and messages for a little bit of added security. This app can be used on a desktop or a mobile device.

In order to use Viber, you will need to download the app for Android. Enter your phone number and verify it. Once your phone number is verified, you will receive a six-digit authentication code, enter that code and then you can begin using Viber.

4. Snapchat

Snapchat is an extremely popular app for sending and receiving photos and videos, but it also has video chat capabilities. This app is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, or whatever store you use to download apps. With Snapchat, you can do video calls one-on-one or with up to 16 people. 

With Snapchat, you can also send stickers and gifs and build groups in communities in addition to instant messaging, sending video and pictures and doing audio and video calls. When using this app to send pictures and videos, it’s different than other messaging apps because your photos and videos will disappear after they have been received and seen.

Download Snapchat then you will need to make an account and sign in with your username and password. Then you are ready to start snapping.
